INQUESTS IN BELFAST.

The Deputy Coroner (Mr. J. S. Finnigan) held two inquests in the Royal Victoria Hospital this morning.

The first inquiry was concerning the death of Frank Corr, aged 54, a labourer, residing at 22 Ashdale Street, which took place suddenly on the 15th inst. Deceased was employed in the Belfast Ropeworks, and while at work on the date mentioned he suddenly fell, stating to Mr. Heron, who went to his assistance, that he had taken a weak turn. He was conveyed to the Royal Victoria Hospital, but was dead on arrival. A verdict of death from heart failure was returned.

The second inquest was on the body of Edwd. Dunning, aged 52, a tailor, who was found in Ann Street on the 12th inst. in a fainting fit. He was conveyed to the hospital, where death ensued shortly after admission. A post-mortem examination conducted by Dr. Lowry, house surgeon, showed that death was caused by a rupture of the main blood-vessel, and a verdict to this effect was returned.

ADMIRALTY ORDER FOR BELFAST.

WARSHIP TO BE ENGINED AT QUEEN'S ISLAND.

The "Glasgow Herald" says: -- The Admiralty have placed the engines for the three battleships to be built at Chatham, Devonport, and Portsmouth with John Brown, Limited, Clydesbank; Harland & Wolff, Belfast; and Humphreys, Tennant & Co., London.

On an "Evening Telegraph" representative enquiring at the Queen's Island, this morning, he was informed that the report, in so far as it related to Messrs. Harland & Wolff, was perfectly correct.

It is understood that it is the battleship to be built at Devonport for which the engines will be constructed by the Belfast firm.

THE DUNDEE ENGINEERS' STRIKE.

AN IMPORTANT MOVE.

Mr. George Ferguson, the Scottish organiser of the A.S.E., is at present on a visit to Dundee, and although details have not yet leaked out, it is apparent that there is an important move on. It is not known whether Mr. Ferguson has a direct mandate from the General Executive to submit suggestions, but he is busy at work to-day, and a significant fact is that, along with several representatives of the operatives, he had an interview with Councillor Longair in the course of the forenoon. Councillor Longair, it may be remembered, made an effort recently to reopen negotiations between the opposing parties, but this was unsuccessful. Yesterday evening there was a meeting of the District Committee of the Union, at which Mr. Ferguson was present. The meeting of the men on strike was yesterday more protracted than usual, and it is understood that the business was of an important nature.

THE RECENT SUICIDE IN THE CITY.

Mr. J. S. Finnigan, Deputy Coroner, held an inquest at the City Mortuary last evening on the body of Henry Rice, who committed suicide on the evening of the 18th inst. by hanging himself in a loft connected with the premises of Joseph W. Irwin, butcher, Woodstock Road.

It appeared from the evidence that the deceased, who was a brother-in-law of Mr. Irwin and in his employment, had been drinking heavily since Christmas, and on the day of the occurrence had been threatened with dismissal for inattention to work. A verdict of suicide was returned.

FOUND DEAD IN AN ENTRY.

The death of Sarah Jane Atkinson, aged 55 years, of 3 Avon Street, on Saturday night last formed the subject of an inquest last evening. It appeared deceased was addicted to drink, and was last seen alive on Saturday afternoon, when in a state of drunkenness she went into a green-grocer's in Dee Street to purchase a cabbage. In the evening her dead body was found in an entry near by, death being due to asphyxia caused by her having fallen on her face whilst under the influence of drink. A verdict to this effect was returned.
