Br. George Posnett, aged 88, the oldest member or Ballymacarrett Purple Star Independent L.O.L, No. 6, led off at the dance under the auspices of the lodge.
He and his partner, Mrs. W. J. Johnstone, were followed by almost 200 dancers.
When he rose with his partner, Br. Posnett was greeted with an enthusiasm which must have thrilled the " grand old man."

Bell, R.M., presiding -- Edward Kearney, New Street, Randalstown, who was summoned by the Ministry of Labour for failing to stamp the Health Insurance card of an employe named David M'Fadden, was fined 2s 6d and 20s costs, and ordered to pay £1 17s 6d arrears.
Mr. R. W. Woods appeared on behalf or the Ministry.
At the conclusion of the business, Mr. Bell congratulated the police on the peaceful state of the district, and said he hoped it would long continue.

ORDINATION OF ELDERS.
IN PORTADOWN CHURCH.
There was a large attendance in Armagh Road Presbyterian Church, Portadown, on Sunday evening, when Rev. John Deans, B.A., Richhill, Moderator of the Presbytery of Armagh, ordained as elders:-- Messrs. Joseph Nevin, William Warren Morrow, and Albert Henry Ward.
The service opened with prayer by Rev. Thomas M'Kinney, M.A., Killylea, and the choir, with Mr. Richard A. Robb at the organ, rendered two items. Rev. Thomas M'Kinney gave an address. Rev. John Deans delivered the constitutional prayer, after which Rev. H. W. Perry, B.A., Armagh Road Church, clerk of the Presbytery, read portion of the Code; Rev. John Deans read the charges and performed the ordination. Rev Joseph M'Kee, B.A., Redrock, saying the ordination prayer. Rev. H. W. Perry led in prayer, Rev. John Deans delivered the ordination sermon, and Rev. John Heney, B.D., minister of First Presbyterian Church. Portadown, pronounced the Benediction.

At the Belfast Summons Court to-day the following fines were imposed:--
Thomas Burns, Hill Street, Newry, exposing two sheep with scab for sale, 20s.
William H. Reid, Carrickhugh, County Derry, five sheep, 40s.

DIOXIDE SULPHUR AND MINCE MEAT
James Mitchell, Ormeau Road, for having mince-meat containing 1,400 parts in 1,000,000 of sulphur dioxide was fined 10s in Belfast Summons Court to-day.
It was stated by Captain Craig, who appeared for the Corporation, that sulphur dioxide was prohibited in mince-meat, and that only one third of the quantity used by defendant was allowed in sausage meat.
Mitchell said he was unaware of the regulation2.

TWO MINERS KILLED: FIVE INJURED.
WHEN TRAMS RAY AMOK.
IN MOUNTAINSIDE COLLIERY,
Two men were killed and five injured at Black Brook Colliery, Caerphilly, South Wales, on Sunday night, when a number of trams crashed into a group of miners.
The victims were William Davies, married, of Caerphilly, and Christopher Osten, single, of Tongwynlais.
The colliery is situated on a mountain side and has a particularlv steep drift.
When the trams ran wildly down the drift into the miners three of the men were hurled several yards, two of them being killed almost instantaneously.
The trams left the lines and there was considerable confusion.
News spread in the district that there had been a much more serious accident, and many of the inhabitants rushed to the pithead.
The colliery is owned by Travis & Co., Cardiff.

TWO OTTERS ATTACK RETRIEVER.
EIGHT IN MONAGHAN LAKE.
SHOTGUN TO THE DOG'S AID.
A fierce fight between an otter and a retriever was witnessed on Lisanisk Lake at the Patrician Brothers Monastery, Carrickmacross, on Sunday.
When the dog swam into the lake in pursuit of two otters, one of them turned upon the dog and held him, both engaging in a struggle. The other otter also joined in the attack. Mr. Jack Woods disposed of the otters with a shotgun, but not before his dog was almost drowned.
The dog brought both animals from the water.

At Belfast Custody Court, to-day, Henry George Churchill, Rockland Street, was returned for trial to the Recorder's Court on bail on the charge of attempting to break into the dwelling-house of Cecil M'Kay, also of Rockland Street.

"FLU'S" TOLL OF HORSES.
GLASGOW OUTBREAK MYSTERY.
A mysterious outbreak of animal influenza, which has already taken heavy toll of Glasgow's horses, is sweeping throughout the city, and has in the space of three weeks accounted for between 40 and 60 valuable horses.
The outbreak, which is the worst the city has experienced for 25 years, has weighed heavily on the city's veterinary surgeons, who nave been working day and night to combat it.

At the recent sale held in the Lecture Hall at Aughentaine Presbyterian Church, near Fivemiletown, in aid of funds for repairs to the church, the sum of £60 was realised, which is most satisfactory. The organiser, Mrs. M'Dowell, and her helpers are to be highly congratulated on its success.
