RICHHILL MAN HAS WON D.F.C.

ALREADY HELD D.F.M.

The Distinguished Flying Cross has been awarded to Acting Flight Lieut. Thomas Stanley Walker Towell, D.F.M., of No. 159 Squadron, described as "An outstanding captain."

Acting Flight-Lieut. Towell was born in 1917 at Richhill, County Armagh, where his home is.

Educated at Richhill P.E. School and at Portadown Technical School, Flight-Lieut Towell joined the R.A.F. some years before the outbreak of war. His father, Mr. Wm. Towell, a retired manufacturer, lives near Richhill, and his sister, Miss Mona Towell, is serving in the W.A.A.F.

The family are very popular in the district, and after Flight-Lieut. Towell won the D.F.M. the village honoured him when he was home on leave in October by making him a handsome presentation.

Mr. J. P Best, Crown Solicitor, County Armagh, did so on behalf of the people of the district and a life size portrait of the young airman was later unveiled in Richhill School.
