A FATAL LOOK.
Railway Ganger Killed.
On Monday night a terrible accident occurred on the new Strabane to Letterkenny Railway line, by which a man named Michael M'Kelvey, a ganger employed on the line, lost his life. Deceased was coming from Raphoe to Strabane on ballast engine, and, when coming through a cutting in the townland of Aughintecragh, half a mile from Raphoe, from some cause or other he put his head over the side of the engine and came in contact with a projecting rock, with the result that the unfortunate man's brains were dashed out. Father M'Devitt. P.P., and medical assistance arrived on the scene, but the unfortunate man was beyond aid.
On Tuesday Mr. Edward Gallagher, coroner for South Donegal, held an inquest on the remains.
John M'Kelvey identified the remains. He had examined the cutting, and found the rock was but three inches clear from the sidle of this engine. The rock in the cutting was eight feet high. Owen M'Ginley, an engine-driver, who drove the engine on the night of the occurrence, said deceased was on the engine, and before entering the cutting coupled some waggons to the engine. Witness, when passing through the cutting, heard crash, and saw the deceased fall off. Witness applied the brakes and stopped the train. Deceased had been in the habit of getting on the engine, and he was a sober man.
Medical evidence showed that the deceased had received fearful injuries, which caused death.
The jury found in accordance with the medical testimony, and added that the cutting was too small to allow an engine to pass through.

The Recent Drowning Accident in Coalisland Canal.
Since the death of Patrick Devlin, of Shanless, in Coalisland canal basin, a considerable amount of local consternation has been going the rounds of the district, in consequence of deceased having a large sum of money on him previous to his death, while only a small sum was found in the deceased's clothes. Although the rumour has gained considerable amount of currency, no credence is placed on it by the authorities. However, some still cling to the belief that he met his death by foul play.

FIRE IN COUNTY TYRONE.
A Family's Narrow Escape.
On Tuesday morning, about two o'clock Mr. and Mrs. Mulholland, spirit dealers, Coalisland, were alarmed by their three children crying, and on awaking were horrified to find the bedroom filled with smoke. On investigation they found that the bar was on fire. They gave an alarm, and immediately a large crowd of neighbours collected, and rendered valuable assistance in getting the children saved. Other willing hands got the fire under control. The matter was reported to the police, who investigated it, and are of the opinion thet the fire occurred accidentally. It is generally believed that the fire originated as the result of a match being thrown into a box containing bottles packed in straw cases. It is stated to be covered by insurance.
